The perfect London pre-theatre menu

Ah, the magic of London’s theatre scene. But before the dazzling lights and captivating performances of the west end, there’s the crucial question: where to dine? Enter the pre-theatre menu, a glorious invention designed to tantalise your taste buds and get you to your show on time.

What is a pre-theatre menu?

These special menus are lifesavers for theatre-goers. A pre-theatre menu offers a concise selection of delicious dishes, typically consisting of two or three courses (starter, main course, and sometimes dessert) at a fixed price. This streamlined approach allows you to enjoy a satisfying pre-show meal without the worry of poring over a lengthy menu or waiting on elaborate courses.

Choosing the perfect pre-theatre menu

With a plethora of pre-theatre options in London, how do you pick the right one? Here are some key considerations:

  • Match your taste buds to the menu theme: Consider if the restaurant specialises in your favourite cuisine, or if they offer vegetarian or lighter options if meat isn’t your focus.
  • Price point: Pre-theatre menus typically offer good value, but prices can vary depending on location, cuisine and number of courses. Determine your budget and choose one that fits comfortably.
  • Course options: Some menus offer flexibility within each course, allowing you to choose from a few options so consider if this variety is important to you.
  • Timing: How long does the pre-theatre menu run and when does it run? Make sure it aligns with your showtime, so you won’t be rushing.

Finding the ideal pre-theatre restaurant

Now that you know what to look for in a menu, let’s explore what makes a restaurant a pre-theatre haven:

  • Location: Ideally, the restaurant you choose should be within walking distance of the theatre you’re attending. This minimises travel time and ensures you arrive relaxed and on time.
  • Ambience: Pre-theatre dining is often about efficiency, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing the atmosphere. Look for a place with a lively but efficient service style.
  • Reservations: Many popular pre-theatre spots require reservations, especially on busy nights. Book your table in advance to avoid disappointment.

Flesh & Buns: A pre-theatre paradise

Let’s take a bite out of the perfect pre-theatre experience at Flesh & Buns, a haven for Asian food lovers and those wanting something a bit different. Our dedicated pre-theatre menu is a symphony of flavours with choices for everyone, ensuring a wonderful prelude to your evening’s entertainment.

Starters to set the stage

Kick things off with our signature Korean Fried Wings served in a spicy sour sauce. Alternatively, the Salmon and Avocado Roll offers a delightful combination of salmon, avocado, asparagus and daikon cress served in a crunchy maki roll. For veggies, try the Tenderstem Broccoli served in a tangy orange miso glaze with bubu arare (crispy rice).

Main acts to savour

For the main course, select from a choice of our famous flesh & buns. The Crispy Duck Leg is perfectly cooked with a lovely plum sauce. If you’re seeking something lighter, the Miso Grilled Aubergine provides a flavourful option that is vegetarian-friendly.

For a non-bun option, our Chicken Teriyaki Poke Don is served in a bed of steamed rice with a rich teriyaki sauce and crunchy vegetables.

Sweet curtain calls

No pre-theatre meal is complete without a touch of sweetness. Choose from any of our fantastic desserts such as our decadent Salted Caramel Chocolate Fondant or our popular S’more where you can toast marshmallows over your table-top fire.
